Thanksgiving #3

Posted by: Becca and Kyle

Thanksgiving #1 was a potluck at Tom and Jess's. Unfortunately, we didn't get snaps of all the food. Here are the ones we got.
Kyle's bread:

We had two chicken dishes. One was a harissa-marinated chicken with red grapefruit salad. Here is the salad:

The second chicken dish was roast chicken with clementines and arak.

Jess made a gorgeous spice cake and I made a pumpkin pie with gingersnap crust. Here I am making it:

Mom and Dad bought all the ingredients to make Thanksgiving dinner for us and Pop, so we had that on Friday.
Spatchcocked chicken:

Creamed greens and barley stuffing:

Spiked, mulled cider:

Pop and I needed to burn off all those calories. So, we walked:

ran,

and played.

I had to roll my legs after all that activity.

Plaid shirt, jeans? Check. Check.

Starbucks mug? Check. Check.

If you didn't notice by now - I like to copy Pop. Including having a glass of wine at dinner.

Pop read me a lot of books, so I took him out for beer and sriracha cauliflower. Yum!

Crabby.

The bigs let me sit on the counter and eat chicken wings while they cook me food.

Nan, this is how it is done:

Sometimes I feel a little crabby:

Bigs, hurry up. I want to ski.

Actually, I want to get your ski out of the way so I can go SLEDDING!

The bigs keep making things from the Jerusalem Cookbook Tom and Jess lent them. This week is was the roasted sweet potatoes and fresh figs recipe.

Riding on pavement is just too easy these days.

Jane is in town (from Colorado Springs) for a writer's retreat. We hung out on Saturday. I was so much fun!
thumb_DSCN1230_1024
Maybe too much fun. Sunday morning was rough. Can I get another cup of coffee?
thumb_DSCN1231_1024
By midmorning I had recovered and was up for some swimming.

Mom, how many years in a row are you going to make Pop eat your failed attempts at Grandma Marie's stuffing? Let's just order dinner from Market of Choice.

Owl Face!

Posted by: Becca & Kyle

This year, the bigs made me a costume I like to call Owl Face:

Don't tell them, but owls have round pupils. Anyway, I thought I looked like an owl.

Mmmmm, Tom's Matos tart (with a basil vinagerette).

We got our first snow this weekend. I skied.

The bigs skied.

Then it was time for sledding.

Dad just wasn't doing it right, so I had to show him. Sigh.
